Brief History Of Wadsworth Mansion

Colonel Clarence S. Wadsworth built the estate in 1900, three years after his marriage to Katharine Fearing Hubbard. They had spent their summer and spring in the Wadsworth estate and maintained it until 1947.

A portion of the land was willed to the State of Connecticut for use as a public park after Colonel Clarence’s death in 1941.

The property was then sold to The Religious of Our Lady of the Cenacle in 1947. The Religious of Our Lady of the Cenacle used the land for 40 years. The property was subdivided, and the house was broadened during this time. It also had a lot of owners since then.

The City of Middletown acquired the land in 1994. Since then, the mansion and the grounds became available for the public to tour and lease for events and weddings.
