So first thing is first, you gotta chose a venue! Choose a wedding venue that gives the vibes of a Harry Potter experience. You can have your wedding receptions in a venue with great dining halls, castles and mansions.
When Googling nearby venues while you want to keep an eye out on those venues which typically hold weddings, so they should be easy to find….but you also should check out private schools because many have great dining halls, and are less sought out as wedding venues!
You can even have your wedding in a scenic greenhouse that will transport you and your guests to herbology class. Rather than battling screaming Mandrakes, they’ll be surrounded by glowing greenery and natural lights.
If you are dreaming about getting married without doing the guerilla-style at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, now is your chance! The park buy-out of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios has a maximum guest capacity of 2,000, but you must follow the COVID-19 policies.
Universal Studio offers you fantastic perks of “A-List” for you to enjoy during your nuptials:
So, to begin planning for your spellbinding wedding, you may call them at 818-622-7278 or fill out Universal Studios RFP form. You will receive information about the costs and dates available from Universal Studios’ event specialist.
But if you are brave enough like a Gryffindor at heart, you can try the guerilla-style wedding just like what Kevin and Jessica did on their magical wedding day! The couple met at The Three Broomsticks for a quick and very intimate ceremony that included a handfasting and vows.
WARNING, doing this has the possibility of you being kicked off of the grounds and potentially banned. Please heavily consider that before doing it.
Yes you totally can have your wedding at Hogwarts! They originally filmed the movie at The Alnwick Castle which is one of the most idyllic and enchanting wedding venues you can ever have in England. You will have a lot of beautiful wedding options available in the area, from a traditional, elegant ceremony in the castle to a fun Harry Potter-themed wedding complete with broomsticks and cloaks. If you prefer an intimate occasion, you can opt for Friars Well or even the old, atmospheric Hulne Abbey.
It offers you three magical and idyllic wedding spots where you can hold your wedding ceremony and say your unbreakable vow. A spectacular venue to celebrate your very special day, the Alnwick Castle Guest Hall offers truly iconic surroundings of Harry Potter, as well as an experienced team to ensure all your dreams come true for your special day. Then you can proceed to the enchanting Gun Terrace, where you can enjoy sipping your cocktails as you witness the sweeping views of the Capability Brown parkland.
The Country House is an intimate wedding venue in the castle as it can accommodate a maximum number of 60 persons. In addition to its outstanding view over its private lake and parkland, the property boasts five large reception rooms, eight bedrooms, including a magnificent master suite, an indoor heated swimming pool, and a variety of terraces.
And last but the least, the Hulne Abbey. Located in the parklands of the Duke of Northumberland, Hulne Abbey is an enchanting and exclusive wedding venue. Hulne Abbey is a beautifully secluded location for your wedding, surrounded by medieval walls and founded as a Carmelite monastery in the 13th century.
Alnwick Castle can host a maximum number of 500 persons for a ceremony and dining. Catering services are also available with menus that can be personalized and ingredients that are locally sourced and prepared to the highest standards. Send them an email to know more and get a quote for your dream Harry Potter Wedding.

Eolioa Mansion gives an impeccable combination of fairytale and elegant wedding vibes. The mansion gives you a magical setting along with its neutral hues and panoramic greens; it will captivate you and your guests as you exchange your unbreakable vow before the darkness of the evening approaches. Eolioa Mansion offers you mythical views of its Japanese maple trees. You might also want to ask your coordinator if you could light candles and arrange a long table outside to complete the eerie setting of the Great Hall in Eolioa Mansion. Check out more information about the Eolioa Mansion here.
Waveny House of the New Canaan is a large Tudor Mansion that takes pride in its vintage-inspired aesthetic, which gives you a Harry Potter-inspired setting. Check out our blog for more inspiration about the Waveny House!
If you are looking for a Harry Potter-inspired wedding with an impeccable blend of castle and mansion, then Brandford House is for you! The Branford House has stunning interiors where your wedding receptions and ceremonies can take place, giving you an elegant wedding vibe. It also takes pride in its opulent decor that shouts elegance and antiquated schemes of Gothic paneling and Baroque fireplaces. For a more Harry Potter wedding reception experience, you can ask your wedding coordinator to arrange long tables for you and ask whether you can add floating candles to your reception venue or not.
Engagement sessions are popular these days. These photos capture the joy and warmth of your new beginning as a couple.
Your future heirs can also feel that magical moment as they look at your engagement photos. Let’s show off the bling now that you’ve got the ring!
Magical-themed parks combined with whimsical colors make the Wizarding World of Harry Potter the perfect location for your bewitching engagement photos. But just be aware that professional photography is typically not allowed, and you will usually have to book one of their onsite photographers for the shoot….so how can you get both fantastic photos and Harry Potter themed?
You accomplish this by picking a public local place and hiring a professional photographer to take care of you, that’s how! Here are some suggestions of local spots you can have your engagement session at.
Train stations are probably the #1 location to have your Harry Potter engagement session at. Nothing screams starting a new chapter in your life, than the place that starts off the magical world for all of the character.
When looking for your train station try to focus on finding either old school train museums, or outdoor train stations with brick buildings. You may have to avoid cities and travel out to suburbs for these specific types of stations.
Naturally school grounds can easily match the look and feel of Hogwarts even if you don’t have any nearby that resemble gigantic castles! Simply having the hustle and bustle of students around, plus the many academic buildings just give off that school-time vibe. Also the older the school the better!
While castles are not easily accessible everywhere, if they are then they make for fantastic backdrops for your engagement session! Even better, if the place acts as a wedding venue as well, I’d even consider hosting it there as well!
After choosing your engagement photo vision, the next step is picking the photographer who will bring it to life! Your photographer will be like Ron, who sacrificed himself to defeat the opposing King during their battle to guard the philosopher’s stone in the Chessboard Chamber! Be sure to tell all the details on how your love story began to help your photographer visualize your magical engagement vision come true.
When it comes to picking your photographer there’s a few factors you should consider that is super specific for your Harry Potter themed engagement session (and possibly wedding?!)
While you and your spouse may have plenty of your own props for your shoot, it’s also super nice if your photographer can provide various props. This includes everything from wands, robes of all the houses, even down to smoke bombs and how to properly use them.
Just incase if you was wondering, I provide all of these items at no additional cost!
If you want to add a magical element to your photos, your photographer needs to be capable of editing photos in Photoshop and have proof of this as well. This boils down to taste, but be sure to see past work to understand their capabilities, because many photographers will just tack on very basic edits and call it a day.
Consider the time of day when you plan to take your spellbinding photographs, especially since lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood. As the sunrise makes a beautiful backdrop, the golden hour creates a stunning overlay, whereas the sunset creates a dreamy aroma as the twinkle in the sky hints at a glimmer, and the night gives uncanny wedding photos.
Lastly, be yourself! Like me (Gary), your photographer specializes in taking photos that last. Feel free to create a mood board and look for Harry Potter wedding engagement photos to help you set the mood and get inspiration! Let your photographer capture your enchanting love most inherently, and have your photographs reflect the spellbinding love that you have.

Besides the obvious of folks running the show for your wedding, you also want to work with folks that just simply get it. You won’t have to spend hours explaining aesthetics, or pointing to this blog post to help them nail the look and feel. While I can’t give you a comprehensive guide on every vendor around the world that’ll properly serve you, what I can offer is advice on what types of vendors can help add that extra flair to your wedding, and suggest vendors you probably didn’t even consider!
Play on the idea of a photo booth for guests to channel their inner Sirius Black. When looking for a photobooth company you really want to work with someone that specializes in custom props for your guests! A bunch of wands and robes of all the houses in all sizes is really a game changer to bring your booth to life!
Turns out that I provide that for couples that want a HP inspired photobooth at their wedding!
So just about any DJ can handle a Harry Potter inspired playlist, but the main reason why you want to work with specific DJs is for three things lighting, smoke, and cold sparks
Lighting is important if you want to nail that fairy lights around your venue, and if you are working with someone that does custom setups, you can even request “floating” candles!
And for smoke and cold sparks these are perfect to make your first dance literally magical. Be sure to check with your venue if they’ll allow it first! Also often times your venue has the perfect vendors to recommend for these effects!
The only reason you may hire a specific florist for your Harry Potter wedding is to absolutely nail your bouquet! You can really get the perfect look if you go with fake flowers because you can get actual Harry Potter pages to be added to your bouquet! Literally couldn’t imagine a more perfect bouquet that implements this for your wedding.
Kids and kids at heart (aka ME) will surely love the surprise of having magicians on their respective tables without them knowing! It is still possible to hire just a few magicians if you are cutting costs! Ask them to play along as one of the guests and let them do their magic tricks from time to time.
When looking for magicians you definitely want to hire street magicians! If you are nearby any major cities don’t hesitate to talk and hire folks that you see doing street magic on the weekends!
You can honor Barnabas the Barmy’s failed attempt to train a group of trolls in ballet by hiring ballet dancers to perform before dinner. Potterheads and young wizards alike will delight in the ballet performances!
Now if you want to bring this to the next level, arrange for the wedding party to perform this ballet….yes…I’m comparing your wedding party to a bunch of trolls. But this reference will go over MANY folks heads, but the HP enthusiasts will love it, and having your wedding party perform it will make it fun for everyone.
If you are in and willing to spend more bucks, why not hire an actor from the Harry Potter Series to surprise everyone at your wedding reception! Or you can hire a lookalike if that’s quite off the card but you still want to surprise your spouse and your guests.
Also if you want to go a cheaper route, you can also hire plenty of HP actors to make a Cameo appearance!
My personal favorites including hiring George Weasley
and even Hagrid!
Do you remember Quirinus Quirell? If not, this is the best time to remember! Though the harp doesn’t play on its own, it is going to be a great piece of attraction for your Potterheads to remember how it attempted to steal the Philosopher’s Stone. You can also hire a harpist to serenade you while sipping on your signature cocktails.
There’s no denying that fireworks are one of the best ideas for wedding entertainment. Watching sparkling lights display with your loved ones is one of the most romantic things you can do on this whimsical day. Guests will be captivated from the start by an extravagant fireworks display.
You did not misread that title, and I bet you didn’t even think of this as a possibility for your wedding but it totally is!
Hire the Owl Postal Service to deliver your precious stones at your wedding! It will surely be a romantic and magical experience for you and your guests to make this extraordinary sight to see. If you are located in Durham definitely check out The Barn Owl Ring Bearer is in to help you give a magical surprise and entertain your guests for an hour.
But sadly for folks in the U.S. this is an INCREDIBLY hard service to come across. Even knowing what to search for is tough but try “How To Rent an Owl in [Insert State]” or try calling a local private animal event experiences, and zoos.
If there’s someone that travels across the country doing a service like this, feel free to email me and I’ll gladly add you to this article!
The process of choosing your wedding dress is one of the most exciting experiences a bride will ever have because this is going to be the dress you will wear on your special day. It is the dress that makes you feel beautiful, the dress you will be in your wedding photographs and videos, and the dress you will wear as you declare your unbreakable vow.
Also don’t overthink trying to have your wedding dress match your house colors! Focus on finding the perfect dress for you, and let your bouquet do the work in matching you with your house. These styles below are just simply what we feel matches best with each house!
One could describe a Hufflepuff as loyal, kind, and fair. Hufflepuffs’ wedding days are filled with love and the presence of those they care about most. A tulle gown for this bride would add a touch of elegance to her wedding day. Its sweet floral lace patterns and jaw-dropping skirts make this gown one to remember for the bride.
A big focus with Hufflepuff dresses is on the Train and they usually bounce back and forth between A-line and Ballroom styles.
Slytherins symbolize determination, cleverness, and ambition. With their glitzy boho vibes, these brides look stunning, and their weddings will make them look like they came straight from a dream.
When looking for a Slytherin dress it helps to look for “mermaid” and Sheath styles, and dresses typically outfitted for beach weddings. Don’t hesitate to check out A-line styles as well!
Gryffindors believe in being brave and daring at the same time. The brides under the Gryffindors are fierce, strong, and independent, and they prefer exquisite details rather than just a dramatic train or a curve-hugging silhouette.
Grynffindors similar to Slytherins want to focus on Mermaid and A-line styles, but what separates them is that they may lean to more champagne colors to match with the rest of their color scheme
Ravenclaws are witches who behave thoughtfully and carefully. The brides in this house always consider the people around her. Lace wedding gowns with dramatic trains must be on your list, especially if you want to have a more sultry yet alluring look in your wedding photographs.
A big focus with Ravenclaws is having sleeves with your dress, or considering a Bolero or jacket to go along with your dress!
How your wedding dress will look is all up to you. It does not have to be as bold as Hermione’s dress, but if that’s your style, why not? You can simply choose a wedding dress that best defines your style and character. It does not matter whether you are a tomboy or a fashionista as long as this is the dress that makes you look and feel great!
If you plan to wear high heels to your wedding, you can opt-in to customize any heal with these sole stickers to add a nice little flair to your heels!
Now what’s cool about wedding suits is that they DEFINITELY have an easier time showing off their house colors when compared to dresses. So don’t hesitate to get a matching tie or go all out with the colors of the suit as well!
The vast array of colors and shades on the market can make selecting a suit a roller coaster ride. But with some consideration, you can easily pick out an outfit that you will love.
Nothing can go wrong with the classic neutral shade of wedding suits as they perfectly blend in the occasion no matter the season or time of day of your wedding. You can easily accentuate it with boutonnieres and play with the colors of your tie that represent your house.
If you want to try something different, you can go all-black with an emerald tie and a Slytherin boutonniere or wear a plaid bow tie with a Gryffindor boutonniere, or wear an eye-catching printed suit.
What you would look like on your wedding day highly depends on your sense of personality. You can be a full-blown Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, or even Draco Malfoy if you wish to wear the exact clothes they are wearing!
Also while I wouldn’t personally recommend this for the majority of your wedding. But many folks may have 2 dresses for their wedding…don’t rule out having 2 suits at a wedding either!
Something silly and fun like this is perfect for a wedding party to wear or it can be something you bust out after all of the formalities have been completed….now it’s time to party!
Attires are very important to unleash your Harry Potter spirit in a Harry Potter wedding. Dress your bridesmaids in party attire reminiscent of house colors. Typically you want to go with each bridesmaid representing a different house, or have them matching with all of the same colors.
If you don’t like the idea of your groomsmen wearing Harry Potter dresses, you can still have them wear ties that match their house’s hues or even the groom’s house colors. The best part is that you can even coordinate their outfit with the bridesmaids’ houses for the best magical wedding photographs.
You might also be a fan of the dark side. You can get your bridesmaids and groomsmen to get a temporary Dark Mark tattoo at your wedding party and capture group photos!
Oh…did you really not expect us to get the guests involved in this as well?! The above photo may not have been a Harry Potter wedding but it does show that if you ask and make it an important part of your wedding, guests can and will arrive in costume!
Guests’ attire on your big day solely depends on you. You can even let them wear their muggle clothes and assign them to their designated tables following your table arrangements.
Or, if you want to go crazy, go ahead and use the sorting hat
to sort their houses and colors. Ask them their houses and sizes after being sorted when they RSVP. So you can bulk buy their Harry Potter cloaks. Compare all the sizes from the shop with your guests to ensure the enchanting vibes are unharmed. These robes can also serve as your wedding gift!
Magical powers are channeled through the use of a wand, and it is commonly used to perform spells, but doing magic without one is also possible. But it will look aesthetically better if you have some on your wedding day. We’ve listed some stores for you where you can get your wands.
As a heads up, many of these shops are located in Connecticut and New York, but many have options to purchase and have them shipped to you!
At Harry Potter New York, you can find a wide range of Harry Potter Merchandise, from clothes to books, to beverages, to wands, and everything that is magical about Harry Potter. The cost of wands varies from $11 to $60. Check out their wand selections here.
Orchardworks is the home to fine hand-carved and solid exotic-wood wands in Connecticut. It is located at 13 Furnace Ave
Stafford, Connecticut. You can also find them on Etsy if you don’t have the time to visit their physical store. Wands at Orcahardworks vary from $9 to $65. Orcharworks also offers a pack of 20 random unfinished Harry Potter wands for $180 and $90 for a set of 10. These random wands only need some finishing touches like colors and designs.
Alivan’s is home to fine handcrafted Harry Potter wands, and they aim to give you the highest quality product from the finest hardwoods. They also offer a collection of wands made from different woods and various exceptional styles. Wand costs at Alivan’s start from $31. Check out their shop to scroll through your preferences.
The Cloak and Wand is a local wizarding and witchcraft-themed shop located in Connecticut. This store provides an experience that will leave customers happy and amazed after knowing and trying on something that is out of this world. This is also where you can buy a replica design of Hermione, Harry Potter, and Lord Voldemorts’ wand for $12.95 each. Sadly though they do not provide anyways to purchase wands online.
Also sidenote, they make a ton of potion drinks here. I have no idea if they provide this as a service but definitely ask if they can cater your wedding!
The best way to make a statement on your wedding day is to add a Harry Potter-inspired bouquet. As you walk down the aisle, everyone will be able to admire the gorgeous arrangement of the bespoke bouquet that can truly match your personality. You can opt to go DIY and get some inspiration from Pinterest or directly purchase a customized flower arrangement from Etsy.
It is important to consider some factors if you decide to do it yourself. The first thing is to determine your style. You have to decide if you will do a classic or a whimsical wand bouquet. The second thing is to source your blooms and other materials. Look at local farms and grocery stores to source your floral varieties.
In addition to your blooms, you’ll need some other tools to create a stunning bouquet.
Optional: You can add some ribbons underneath the pomander to add more style to it.
And now, for the busy and not so creative bride. Yep! A lot of florists can design your dream wand wedding bouquet if given enough time. But if you want a lesser interaction with others, head on to Etsy to browse wedding wands.
Check out MaddisonRocks‘ Etsy store for more bouquet choices. The photos above are samples of a wand wedding bouquet for a Gryffindor and a Ravenclaw bride and are available for $135.56.

Oops sorry wrong hobby, but I just LOVEEE talking about fun ways to incorporate geeky hobbies into your entertainment. From games to play to the drinks you’ll drink, we’ll cover all of those things below!
Keep the Potterheads busy solving a life-like Chess game simulating the scene from the series Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Your strategic friends and family will have a lot of fun playing this game, and it will also allow them to test their ability to remain sane after a few cocktails.
This exact set will cost you $450!
Stack up templates in the center of every table in your wedding reception to allow your guests to write their version of your love story. Try adding some blank spaces on your wedding invitation for them to write upon if you don’t want to see stacks of papers on the tables!
A game where couples have to prove how well they know each other is one of the most popular games at weddings today that entertains both guests and newlyweds. It is a very easy game where the couple only has to raise the wands in their hands instead of shouting. When the question is asked they should raise the wand, representing the person described in the question.
A snitch piñata is another way to entertain your Potterhead guests. Hang it in the center and it serves as an attention seeker waiting for its keeper. Stuff it with candies and enjoy!
Kids and adults can have so much fun with temporary tattoos. The wedding party doesn’t have to have all the fun with getting death marks and tattoos! Open it up to everyone!
End the night by raising your sparklers as wands to the sky. Having your friends and family gathered around you for the ceremony will make beautiful wedding photography as the sparkles shine above you.
Well, not all venues allow sparklers and fire. So, to give you a graceful exit at your wedding ceremony, you can ask your bridesmaids and groomsmen to raise their wands to the sky – truly, a Dumbledore-approved!
Here are some of my favorite cocktails with most of them thought up by Halloween Costumes, not only are these simple enough to perform at just about any bar, but these are cute little graphics that you can hand over to your bartender to make their lives easier!
If you are feeling really adventurous, and if your bartenders will allow it, ask if they’ll serve it with dry ice for a smoky effect!
**WARNING!! Not all adults can handle the responsibility to NOT touch the dry ice, it’s totally safe to drink with it in the glass, but there’s always 1 person who wants to touch it directly (or worse swallow it) which is not safe. Consider the crowd at your wedding before considering adding dry ice to the menu!**
We all knew this was going to be on the list! And what’s great about Butter Beer is that it can easily be replicated at a bar, simply ask your bartenders to provide a premade cocktail of 2 parts Vanilla Vodka, 3 parts Butterscotch Schnapps, 2 parts Cinnamon Schnapps.
3oz of this cocktail simply needs to be mixed with 10oz of a fresh can of Cream Soda, then garnish with whipped cream and you are done!
Probably the strongest drink that is going to be on this list (besides just straight alcohol….listed below!). Only add this as a signature cocktail if you intend on actually destroying all of your guests….which is very fitting actually.
If you are curious how this will taste, I believe this is very similar to a Grateful Dead
I have a rule with wedding gifts, either skip them and instead make more desserts or save your money……or……..give guests alcohol.
This is the perfect wedding gift for a Harry Potter wedding and it’s incredibly simple, because there’s only vodka in the container! Make things interesting for guests by using all types of clear liquids…even the occassional water!
Voted as most likely to be turned down as a signature drink, because it involves a blender! But if you really love Pina Coladas (I wouldn’t blame you they are my favorite too!) you can always remove real fruits and just add extra pineapple juice.
Incredibly simple drink for couples that LOVEEEEE their gin. Just be warned! The color is a fantastic green and this can be renamed into a Slytherin drink but if you are not a fan of gin then you’ll be doing yourself a disservice!
I would consider this a great go-to drink for couples having a hard time trying to think of something everyone will enjoy (besides Butterbeer of course!)
If you couldn’t already guess this is probably the 2nd strongest potion…and going with the theme of evil things, only add this to your cocktail menu if you want to have a bad time….so this is personally right up my alley.
Absolutely fantastic if you love dirty martini’s but be warned, I don’t believe your cocktails will be this same color from the listed ingredients.
Another drink that I’ll give a little warning about with the color! The lemon juice should help turn this drink a little bit orange, but it’s really hard to change brown into other colors.
The original article that suggested this idea had a different name and this was mostly for kids drink, but I have a new idea!
Similar to the original instructions, take food coloring and drop it on the bottom of a ton of shot classes, and use colors from each house. This has to be done far enough ahead of time for the food coloring to dry up, a drop or two in each shot glass should be enough.
Then surprise your guests by pouring a shot into the glass to give them a house color on the spot!
I’ll update this section with how much time is needed for the food coloring to dry once I try this experiment out for myself.
ready to do this?
At Love Long and Prosper Photography I know that you want to walk away with memories that you will never forget . In order to do that, you need someone who can not only capture these memories but assist you in showing the real you in these memories.
The problem is that many folks find themselves too awkward in front of a camera which makes you feel like you cannot capture truly beautiful photos as yourself. That is a load of bull, my goal is to make every couple shine and to show themselves as extraordinary as they feel inside.
I understand that I may have to knock down some of your walls to make you feel comfortable which is why I have the following process to ensure that every wedding is a wedding worth remembering….

So many creative ideas!
Wow! This is amazing! Love your work too!
So there’s a great deal of leeway with this lemon drop shot, and you can truly utilize anything you need to make it!
With regards to vodka, you truly can’t turn out badly with Dark Goose, Titos, or Smirnoff. I like Dim Goose in mine, however anything that you have close by will turn out great.
I appreciate the practical tips you provided. Can’t wait to implement them.
