The City of Glastonbury is built on the eastern shores of the Connecticut River in Hartford County in central Connecticut. The area was incorporated in 1693. It was founded in 1636 as part of Wethersfield, and it was called Pyaug. Since 1655 the oldest ferry in the United States has been in operation in Glastonbury. The route runs between Glastonbury South and Rocky Hill.
